Texas VLT limits by vehicle type
VLT stands for Visible Light Transmission — the percentage of light a window lets through. A lower number means a darker window. Texas measures the combined VLT of the glass plus the film, which is why a "35%" film on factory-tinted glass can measure much darker than expected.

Texas also limits reflectivity to 25% on front and rear side windows, and red, amber and blue tint colors are prohibited. Every legal installation must carry a compliance sticker between the film and the glass on the driver's side door — we apply one on every vehicle we tint.
Medical exemptions
Drivers with light-sensitive conditions — lupus, melanoma, photosensitivity and similar diagnoses — can run darker front windows with a signed statement from a licensed physician or optometrist. Keep the statement in the vehicle at all times; there is no separate state permit to apply for. Bring it to your appointment and we'll match the film to what your provider specifies.
