We have installed safety and security film for districts across Texas, and the conversation is remarkably consistent. Administrators know their vestibule glass is the weak point. What they need is a plan that fits a budget cycle and a summer calendar.
The Vulnerability Is the Glass, Not the Lock
A locked entry door with an unprotected sidelight is not a locked door. Any hard object defeats that glass instantly, and the intruder reaches through to the interior handle. This exact sequence appears in incident after incident, and it is why glazing hardening has become the first line item in most campus security assessments.
Security film changes that calculus. The pane breaks but does not clear, the reach-through fails, and the attempt becomes loud and prolonged in full view of cameras and staff.
Which Openings to Prioritize
Budgets are finite, so we rank openings by how directly they lead to occupied space:
- Main entry vestibule glass, door lites, and sidelights
- Front office glazing adjacent to the vestibule
- Ground-floor classroom windows on accessible elevations
- Cafeteria, gym, and library exterior glass used as secondary entries
- Interior corridor and lockdown-zone glazing
Attachment Systems Matter
Film alone keeps the glass together, but the filmed sheet can still be pushed out of a dry-glazed frame. A wet-glaze silicone bead or a mechanical batten anchors the filmed pane to the frame so the whole assembly resists as a unit. For entry-point glazing, we specify attachment as a matter of course.
Scheduling and Documentation
Campus work happens on the district's calendar, not ours: summers, holidays, weekends, and after hours. Large districts are typically phased by campus priority across multiple budget cycles.
