Classroom window film can address glare, heat, UV and visibility without the cords and slats of traditional blinds. It does not replace a district’s lockdown procedures. School safety and architectural-film projects are handled by Alpha Shield by LeWolf.

Do corded blinds create a hazard?

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warns that accessible window-covering cords pose strangulation risks to young children. Applied film has no cords or moving parts. Districts should follow current CPSC guidance and their own facility standards for any covering that remains.

Can window film provide concealment during a lockdown?

Reflective or exterior-privacy films can reduce how easily people outside see into a room during daylight. That effect depends on lighting: when the interior is brighter than outside, such as at night, visibility can reverse. Opaque or frosted films conceal at all times but block the view. Choose the type around each room’s procedures and confirm it with district safety staff.

Why does UV and glare control matter in classrooms?

Qualifying window films block up to 99% of UV radiation, and some carry the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation. Glare control helps students see screens and boards. Compare VLT so rooms keep enough daylight.

Does security film stop intruders?

Safety and security films help hold broken glass together and can delay entry, especially with a frame attachment system. They are not bulletproof. Ask for test data that matches the proposed glass, film and attachment assembly.

Where should a district start?

Survey classroom windows, door vision panels and sidelights. Identify which openings need concealment, glare control, fragment retention or forced-entry delay, then specify film by opening.
